How Much Does a Pool Table Weigh? (Weight Chart by Brand & Size)
By Marco · Published October 2026
Real pool table weights from manufacturer specifications: how heavy each brand and size actually is, how much of that weight is the slate, and what those numbers mean when you need one moved.
The quick answer
A typical 8-foot slate pool table weighs 700–1,000 pounds. A 7-footer runs lighter at about 600–800 pounds, and a 9-foot table runs 900–1,500 pounds, with commercial tournament models at the top of that range. Wood-bed (non-slate) tables are far lighter at 250–450 pounds.
The single biggest reason a slate table weighs so much is right in the name: the slate bed alone accounts for roughly 450–600 pounds of the total. Everything else — the frame, rails, legs, and pockets — makes up the rest.
Pool table weight by size
Pool tables are named for the length of their playing surface, and weight climbs with size more than most buyers expect:
| Table size | Slate table | Wood-bed table | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7-foot (“bar box”) | 600–800 lbs | 250–400 lbs | Bars, game rooms, kids’ first table |
| 8-foot (most common home size) | 700–1,000 lbs | 300–450 lbs | Homes — the standard family table |
| 8.5-foot (oversize) | 800–1,100 lbs | — | Serious home players |
| 9-foot (regulation tournament) | 900–1,500 lbs | — | Tournaments, leagues, serious players |
| Coin-operated (bar table) | 700–1,000+ lbs | — | Commercial — often 1-piece slate |

How much does the slate itself weigh?
Most quality tables use a 3-piece slate: three separate slabs that get seamed and leveled during installation. Each piece typically weighs 150–250 pounds, so the full bed runs 450–750 pounds on its own.
- 3-piece slate (standard): each piece 150–250 lbs. Easier to move piece by piece, but the seams must be leveled and filled perfectly during installation or you will see and feel them.
- 1-piece slate: a single slab of 450–600+ lbs, common on older tables and coin-operated bar boxes. Total table weight is similar, but moving a 1-piece slate takes different equipment and more muscle — there is no taking it apart.
This is also why professional movers almost always disassemble a slate table completely for transport: three 200-pound pieces carried by two people each is dramatically safer for the table, the walls, and the crew than a 900-pound object moved whole.
Why weight matters when you move a table
The weight number is the difference between a simple job and a hard one:
- Crew size and equipment: a 7-foot wood-bed table at 300 lbs is a two-person job. A 9-foot slate table at 1,200 lbs needs a trained crew, dollies, and padding — and stairs multiply the difficulty.
- Floors and stairs: a slate table concentrated on four legs puts more load on a floor than the same weight spread across furniture. Going upstairs changes the plan completely (see below).
- Damage risk: slate is stone. Lift a table wrong, twist a frame on a threshold, or drop a slate piece and you are looking at a cracked bed — usually a total loss.

Can your floor support a pool table?
Almost always, yes — a 900-pound table spread over four (or more) legs applies roughly the same floor load as several adults standing in a small group. Standard residential wood framing handles it without issue in normal rooms.
The exceptions worth thinking about: older homes with undersized or spaced joists, rooms above large open spans (like a table centered over a long garage or bonus-room span), and any second-floor room where the table sits near the middle of the span rather than against a bearing wall. If any of those describe your game room, put the table near a wall or over a support, or ask a builder to take a look. Balconies and raised decks are a hard no.
Pool table weight questions
How heavy is an 8-foot pool table?
Most 8-foot slate tables weigh 700–1,000 pounds, with the popular home brands clustering around 800–900 pounds. The slate bed accounts for roughly 450–600 pounds of that total.
Can two people move a pool table?
Not a slate table in one piece, and you should never try. A full-size slate table must be disassembled — rails, pockets, felt, and the three slate pieces come off separately — and even then each slate piece at 150–250 pounds is a careful two-person carry. Wood-bed tables under 450 pounds can sometimes be moved by two strong, careful people with furniture dollies.
How much does one slate piece weigh?
Typically 150–250 pounds per piece on a 3-piece slate bed. Brunswick Gold Crown slates run about 206 pounds per piece.
Can a pool table go upstairs?
Yes, slate tables go upstairs regularly — but it requires a crew that has done it before. Each slate piece goes up individually, tight stair turns change the carrying technique, and the floor plan of the room above should be checked (see the floor section above).
What is the heaviest pool table?
Commercial 9-foot tournament tables with thick slate run 1,500 pounds, and the Connelly Ultimate 9-foot with 2-inch Italian slate has been reported at around 2,400 pounds — the heaviest residential table we know of.
How much does a pool table weigh in kg?
A typical 8-foot slate table weighs about 320–450 kg (700–1,000 lbs); the slate alone is roughly 200–270 kg (450–600 lbs).
